Healthcare providers in Sweden handle patient consent across a fragmented mix of paper forms and disconnected systems. Every record touched means a signature to collect, verify, store and later prove — and every manual step is a point where sensitive patient data can be exposed or a compliance obligation missed.
ABM Tech built a consent management platform that moves the entire lifecycle into one auditable digital workflow, integrated directly with Sweden's national digital identity ecosystem so a patient's identity is verified with the credentials they already trust.
The platform had to simplify how consent is obtained and managed, harden the security around sensitive patient data, and integrate cleanly with Sweden's digital identity ecosystem — BankID included.
Those goals pull against each other. Stronger security usually means more friction for the patient; deeper identity integration usually means more surface area to secure. The system needed to satisfy all three without asking clinical staff to change how they work.
We built on a Java 17 and Spring Boot backend, layering Spring Security, Apache Keycloak and BankID so identity and authorisation are enforced at the framework level rather than bolted on per endpoint.
The service runs on AWS with Docker and Swarm orchestration, and every interface is defined through OpenAPI so integrating systems have an unambiguous contract to build against.
